Thursday AM Update: CMC Sits, 49ers WR Mess, Eagles Banged Up

Week 9 Wednesday practice fallout: Christian McCaffrey DNP, Mike Evans and Deebo out of practice, Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith out of practice, A.J. Brown DNP.

Wednesday's practice reports are in. Here's what might shake up your Week 9 lineup, plus what to watch on TNF tonight.

1. Christian McCaffrey sits out Wednesday; Shanahan hopes to have him limited Thursday. It's a mild hamstring injury from Week 7. CMC says he feels great coming off the bye, and Kyle Shanahan hopes he gets limited work today (NFL.com, NBC Sports). Plan to start him against the Raiders unless Thursday or Friday goes sideways. If Kaelon Black isn't on your roster, grab him now as insurance.

2. 49ers wideouts are a mess. Mike Evans (ribs/Achilles) and Deebo Samuel (hamstring) both DNP Wednesday. Shanahan says Evans made progress over the bye; Deebo looks further off and is unlikely this week. Demarcus Robinson returned limited after missing time since Week 2 (NFL.com, DraftSharks). Sit Deebo. Evans is likely to sit Sunday with Achilles tendonitis per 49ers GM John Lynch. Lynch didn't rule him out, but he said the team is resting it so it doesn't linger. Plan around him (49ers Webzone, RotoWire). Robinson is a deep-league dart if both stay out.

3. Eagles: Saquon Barkley sits, DeVonta Smith and Wicks still out. Barkley missed Wednesday with hamstring and back issues after just 22 snaps last week. He could follow last week's script: sit early, play Sunday. If he can’t suit up the Eagles can turn to Jaydon Blue and Elijah Mitchell. DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle) are on track to miss a third straight game (NBC Sports). Joe Milton's first start already makes Philly's pass catchers shaky. Without Smith, Milton will have to lean on Dallas Goedert and Makai Lemon. Lemon led the Eagles in catches, yards, and targets in Week 8 (6-of-9 for 57) and has 124 yards and a touchdown over his last two games with Smith and Wicks out (FantasyPros), but it’s difficult to tell how he and the other receiving targets will mesh with Joe Milton, in addition to how the Eagles' offensive game plan will look with a new quarterback under center.

4. A.J. Brown sits (ankle/knee); Amon-Ra is limited (ribs). Brown sat Wednesday in New England and needs a bounce-back practice before you lock him in (Yahoo). Amon-Ra St. Brown was limited with his ribs. Keep an eye on it, but don't panic yet. Christian Watson was also limited with his rib issue (already flagged in our injury roundup).

TNF tonight (Jax @ Bal): Still no answer on Tuten. He's a game-time decision after three DNPs (foot/ankle); inactives hit ~90 minutes before the 7:15 p.m. CT kick. Chris Rodriguez Jr. is the play if Tuten sits (USA Today, Jaguars.com). Nothing new on the Ravens side. Joe Fagnano starts, and Brissett won’t play tonight because his trade likely won’t go through until the weekend (USA Today).

Already covered: Lamar/Huntley/Brissett, Milton start, Darnold out, Jordyn Tyson, Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall. See the injury roundup and Wednesday night update.
